State Senator Jimmy Stewart is currently serving his first term in the Ohio Senate. He represents the constituents of the 20th Ohio Senate District, which includes Meigs, Athens, Morgan, and parts of Washington Counties. As Stewart enters the Ohio Senate, he brings with him a background rooted in the beliefs and traditions of southern Ohio and experience gained from three terms as the Representative from Ohio's 92nd House District (2003-2008).

Stewart obtained a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in economics from Marshall University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Xavier University.

After college Stewart, who now resides in Meigs County, worked as an equipment salesman for Caterpillar Equipment and later served on Athens City Council. No stranger to local government, Stewart later served as Athens City Auditor, overseeing all financial local government matters pertaining to his hometown.

Over the course of his term as a state representative, Stewart focused on issues that impact all Ohioans – job creation, economic development, balancing the state budget, education initiatives, advancing technology for Ohioans, and improving safety for our children. In all, Stewart is working diligently to continue to make southern Ohio, and communities across the state, a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

As part of the opening ceremonies of the 128 General Assembly, Stewart, an Albany Republican, was sworn in to represent the 20 Senate District. The event marked Stewart’s first day of a new four-year term.
