    Kane announces Candidacy for Sheriff

“It is time for a change in Athens County; a change the people in Athens County can trust.” Today, I’m declaring my candidacy for Athens County Sheriff, because I want to be that change.
I have had the honor and pleasure of serving the citizens of this great state of Ohio for over 30 years through my law enforcement career, starting with Athens Police Department and retiring from the Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation. I
will be committed to being responsive to the public as well as bringing integrity and professionalism to the Office. With my Integrity & Commitment to duty and my desire to serve the public, I will bring Professionalism to the Sheriff’s Office. I will work with all law enforcement agencies and office holders to make the Sheriff’s Office a proud place to work.
My campaign will be based on being Responsive to the public; you’ll have my ear. I am hearing the problems and want to work to bring back respect to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office. As your Sheriff, one of my main objectives will be showing responsiveness to this community. The residents of Athens County deserve accountability from their Sheriff’s Office, and when in need, they should have access to their deputies in a timely manner.
Communities nationwide must put their trust in public servants, which is why I
also believe deeply in the principle of integrity and commitment. No person should be
left to wonder; who enforces the law of law enforcement? With many years of
management experience in law enforcement I assure you the Athens County Sheriff’s
Office, under my guidance, will earn your trust.
In my faith and service to the public I also promise to bring professionalism to
the Office. Law enforcement officers must never forget the importance of their role in
our community and the people their badge protects and serves. The Sheriff’s Office does not only represent law enforcement, but our way of life here in Athens County.
I would like to extend my most sincere appreciation to my family, who has
patiently allowed me to dedicate the time necessary to accomplish this and many other goals. Together, we enthusiastically embrace this challenge. I eagerly await this
upcoming year where I will be blessed with opportunity to both, greet old friends and
make new acquaintances on the campaign trail.
I ask for your support and encouragement, but most importantly, I ask you for
your vote and confidence in my ability, to serve as your next Athens County Sheriff.

Thompson Announces Candidacy for 92nd House District

jillATHENS, Ohio – Jill Thompson formally announced her candidacy today for the Ohio House of Representatives in 2008.

Thompson will run for the 92nd House District, which will be vacated by State Representative Jimmy Stewart, who is running for the Ohio Senate.  The 92nd House District includes Athens, Meigs, Morgan and parts of Washington County.

Thompson said rebuilding our economy, improving educational opportunities and making state government more accountable are among her top priorities.

“I am committed to keeping and creating jobs in southeastern Ohio, and to making sure all children receive a quality education, regardless of where they live,” Thompson said.

A proven leader, Thompson currently serves as the Athens County Auditor where one of her primary issues is accountability.  Thompson established the first Athens County Auditor website to provide property record information online in an effort to provide more accurate and accessible information any hour of any day.

Thompson has been an active member of the Ohio Council of County Officials (OCCO) and the Legislative and Executive Committee of the County Auditor’s Association of Ohio (CAAO) of which she sits on several committees.  Recently, Thompson was elected as Second-Vice Chair of the CAAO.

“As an elected official, I have always made accountability a main focus in my office,” said Thompson.  “At the state level, I hope to continue my service to the citizens of Ohio and I will work to keep our community and economy strong.”

An active member of the community, Thompson is a member of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, Athens County Farm Bureau, A.M. Rotary, Ohio University Green and White Club, and will return to the United Seniors of Athens County Board in January.

Jill Thompson and her husband Trevis currently reside in The Plains with their extremely active three boys, Trent, Lukas and Seth.  She graduated from Alexander High School and attended Ohio University, where she graduated from the School of Business with a degree in Finance.
